PEACE

30.09.09

logo-amnistia-internacional

You have to hand it to Barcelona’s Buffetlibre, they think big. Projects such as Rewind and Rewind 2, have harnessed the collaborative power of the web in a way that few others have yet managed.

If only they could use their powers to better humanity rather than just fill our ipods with weird and wonderful covers. Well guess what, it seems that they have heard the call and have just unveiled their next ridiculously ambitious project entitled PEACE.

Created with Amnesty International PEACE brings together over 100 different artists from over 50 countries, and thankfully not in a Band Aid style mega group. Instead you have artists as brilliantly diverse as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Marc Almond, Dan Deacon and the unbelievably awesome sounding Wanlov the Kubolor (from Ghana no less) all contributing a track to one huge digital compilation.

The album will be released in January and you’ll be able to pay what you like for it (min $2), all the proceeds go to Amnesty, so dig deep when the time comes.

As a taster for the compilation they’ve made a few tracks available for download and we’re going to post the rather splendid Superstar by Kwaito producer Dj Mujava (and Dj NonSense), which does to Belgian hardcore what Township Funk did to bleep techno.

Paradise Lost

30.09.09

Utter the Belgian name Django twice in front of a mirror and four besuited men will be transported from eating Pide in a Dalston takeaway and appear right in front of your boat race!

Maybe this is how Record Makers got Django Django to remix Turzi?

Maybe they coerced them with the promise of chocolate coloured vinyl?

Turzi – Bombay (Django Django’s Thunder in Paradise remix)

Turzi’s Bombay/Buenos Aires is out October 12th with a neat Sebo Tellier Remix too

Sei What?

30.09.09

Glasgow-based Sei A‘s Chinese Whispers EP on Gigolo Recordings has finally touched ground with an eerie mechanical number featuring the shadowy vocals of Sara Pickin. The deep, booming title track is balanced by the beat of the driving clockwork-like drums amongst her creepy creepy voice, whilst the B-side My Montage is an equally dark affair, laced with several discretely soaring build-ups lying in wait. Out this September.

Neighbours

Really loving Ivan Markovic’s gorgeous new print and screen work for a new project entitled ‘Neighbours’ for the French Embassy in London.

Neighbours is Pascale Cassagnau’s latest collaboration with the South London Gallery, aiming to put into perspective the links and overlaps between contemporary art, cinema and the documentary form, through a body of works that demonstrates the diversity and richness of French film-making.

Neighbours takes place at the Rio and Cine Lumiere cinemas up until the 7th of October. For more information on what’s on during the series visit their site here.

Fasten Your Seatbelts

29.09.09

More Weegie Edit business from The Revenge with them being responsible for the first release on the new Home Taping Is Killing Music imprint, with a track entitled Forever In Their Debt which, as the title might suggest, pays homage to the artists from the days when Jack ruled the House.

Nice bit of proper boompy house music – look out for the nice deep detroit retouuch from Red Rack Em upon release later this month. Awesome way to kick off a label.

Hold The Bells

29.09.09

nrds9

Having put my back out over the weekend I decided to make the best of it by getting loaded on backstreet pharmaceuticals and working my way through the 2769 unread emails in my inbox.

My pain is ultimately your gain though as amongst the many cries for help from the grieving widows of African finance ministers, there news of the 9th and sadly second to last release in the excellent Rvng of the Nrds 12″ series.

One of the few labels to have us consistently running for the credit card, RVNG do things properly, twinning the likes of In Flagranti, Greg Wilson, Todd Terje and Twitch with some of the best packaging you’ll find today.

This time it’s the turn of Stockholm’s Jackpot, and they more than deliver the goods with three tracks of prime time disco fodder, ranging from the anthemic Brief Encounter, and the jacking house of Jungle Gym to the ‘Moroder on a lovers tip’ arpeggio fest of Night Flight.

As ever the vinyl is as limited as it is desirable, so don’t delay, buy today!
