Golf Claps All Round

21.09.09

Continuing with the Gomma theme is the latest Gomma Dance Tracks release from The KDMS – a collaboration between Sarf London disco vocalist du jour Kathy Diamond and Warswaw whipper snapper Max Skiba

Slutty Fringe was all over Miss Diamond’s album with Mo Fu from a few years back so it’s great to see some more slinky disco action from her. Peep this awesome remix from house legend Nicky Siano, one of two he submitted for this release along with a club edit from Munk.

Bleep Street

As part of their ongoing 20th Birthday pat on the back Warp have temporarily re-opened their old Sheffield shop. Which is a rather nice touch.

This weekend you can catch Maximo Park and Harmonic 313 doing instore DJ sets, whilst Nightmares on Waxand Hudson Mohawke will be stuck behind the counter.

All of which just gives me an excuse to plug the forthcoming Hudmo album again, which now i’ve listened to it a few times i can confidently say sounds like Rick James slipping you a date rape drug.

Are You For Sale?

17.09.09

Are-You-For-Sale-

We’ve spent all summer speaker humping the fuck out of Relish Recordings reissue of the imperious High Pressure Days by The Units and playing the Rory Phillips remix at every given opportunity (bus drivers are big fans)

Given The Units bedraggled appearance after several months of speakerhumping it’s timely that Relish are on the cusp of releasing a taste of what to expect in the future from the label.

Due soon is the Relish Sampler EP which gives you, the attentive listener, a snatch of sound from Headman’s forthcoming album, a chance to reacquaint yourselves with Dutch fancy dans David Gilmour Girls (not seen since their 2007 album) and further evidence of The C90s production talents.

Of the three tracks it’s Headman’s Random Disco thats got us doing the disco pogo in our pumps the most.

Headman – Random Disco

The Relish Sampler EP drops on September 21st

Gimme Some More

16.09.09

Pretty much avoided the video for Peanuts Club thanks mostly to the endless internet jibber jabber over Brodinski & Noob’s peaktime hooterfest

& also cos you don’t want to encourage Brodi chat when Flo is around

which is a shame because there are fewer things in life more satisfying than 6 odd minutes of looped up chimpanzee dancing to a lysergic sound track.

(Tommy Von Party knows the score obviously)

Peanuts Club finally drops next week on various formats b/w the slightly less nauseating Cajou Club and accompanied by two remixes from Renaissance Man and one from Mommas Boy though Beatport is probably selling it now for a vastly inflated fee.

Hype Mango

Rivalling Retro Grade in the when is it going to fckn drop stakes is the Night Slugs EP on Dre$$ 2 $weat which FINALLY sees release next fckn week.

Such a delay is understandable as theres a new Bok Bok and/or L Vis 1990 edit/remix/collab/video shoot/sleeve design/radio show/club night/ t shirt for every day of every week this year but still it’s been a long time coming chaps.

Get your mutton chops round this dubplates 09 mix put together by mnml grime urchin Bok Bok which should act as a perfect teaser for what is a outstanding EP.

Can You Dig It?

16.09.09

Ace Ldn vinyl emporium  and imprint Soul Jazz Records continue to chart the rich musical heritage of our past so you don’t have to with the forthcoming release of a Double CD Blaxploitation retrospective cunningly titled Can You Dig It? Black Action Films 1968-1975 that contains stone cold classics from such luminaries as Willie Hutch, Curtis Mayfield, Grant Green and Galt McDermott.

Being Soul Jazz, not only do you get 34 tracks which extend beyond the recognition of those with a cursorary appreciation of the travails of John Shaft or Tarantino soundtracks, you also get a lovingly presented 100 page booklet which charts the rise of this heavily politicised cinematic genre and the amazing music that sound tracked it.

Plus the coverart acts as a timely reminder of how hot Pam Grier was.

The nice peeps at Soul Jazz have offered up a copy of this retrospective along with a stack of Soul Jazz goodies to Slutty Fringe – drop us an email with an answer to the following:

Which HBO series did Across 110th St actor Yaphet Kotto boss for several seasons during the 1990s?

Retro/Grade: Moda

MODA MODA MODA.

Everyone’s been waiting for this. Lurking in the sets of Erol Alkan to Trevor Jackson and Mr Ridha, this Italo beast has slain floors aplenty.

Retro/Grade aka Serge Santiago and Tom Neville are making the most serious sounding Italo-disco possible, none of that tongue-in-cheek, eye-winking, bum-wiggling business but combining retro disco sounds with proper modern electronic ethics. Yum yum.

EBM STOMP *EXCESSIVE RADNESS HEREIN*

09.09.09

You all read blogs so you’ll know how much we, the internet,  like Get Colour; the new Health album (readers of 88 Days more so than others)

Get Colour is rad cos it sounds like the last Health album and Health are rad cos they sound like no else.

Health //Disco was rad cos it had artists like Acid Girls & CFCF & Pink Skull doing rad remixes of Health.

US Music types Urb are rad cos they’ve done a Health remix project with tracks from Get Colour remixed by Acid Girls and Elliot Lipp and Tommy Sunshine (sparing some time from appearing as The Dude in a off broadway adaptation of The Big Lebowski) amongst others

KILL ‘EM ALL

09.09.09

Holding a mildly less manic crowd than usual bar the carnival midget in Room 3 and a seeming abundance of Hawaiian men, Fabric‘s all-star Kill ‘Em All x Durrr x Girlcore party on Friday was thus ever-more indulgently enjoyable.
On after Stopmakingme‘s early disco-ish set, Filthy Dukes just go right ahead and wantonly play Popof‘s ‘Serenity’ Noob remix whilst he is due on at 4.30am. Whilst Aeroplane unexpectedly played summer chooon ‘I’ll Get You’ by Classixx and of course their remix/cover ft. Au Revoir Simone of Friendly Fires’ ‘Paris’ whereupon we were literally forced by gunpoint to join in the mass emotive sing-along that burst through the entire room.

Riton lived up to his reputation of administering mad skills on the decks playing an intense set of ‘Pon di Floor’ to Mowgli‘s ‘Con Alegria’ (Solo More Cowbell remix- who can resist more cowbell?) and ‘party banger’ Duck Sauce- ‘Grand Steppin’ from their new EP. Whilst Room 2 was a little less ‘banger’, a little more ‘slapper’, with Durrr showcasing In Flagranti’s sexually disturbing visuals with groove filled italo-disco-disco between Rory Phillips, Lovely Jonjo and the lot, miles (ok, two doors) away from lairy indie punters-filled Room 1.

Girlcore were at the helm upstairs, featuring Genghis Clan tracks complete with a Hawaiian beach party theme (who knows?) with Isa GT, Naomi// and the other ones. The former played some sort of horrible dub rave x baile funk whilst latter Girlcorer dropped Brodinski & Noob and the like. However, Cooly G, ‘deep-tech house’ steeped in reluctant dubstep UK funky girl of the moment was the main attraction playing a varied set including Claude VonStroke’s remix of ‘War Paint’ sparking off our dramatically ironic dance-off whilst her crew look on mildly displeased, so we ran back to Room 1 beckoning us with that acid-ic Renaissance Man remix of ‘Peanuts Club’. A haven, if my boyfriend didn’t suffer from a nut allergy and collapse before Popof.
