For the most contemporary example of what happens when visual media collides with musical expression look no further than Sport Hit Paradise.
Up and coming illustration talent Elizabeth Arkhipoff asked a clutch of excellent musicians such as Munk, Discodeine, In Flagranti and Gavin Russom to record a track for her imaginary band Sport Hit Paradise, providing the general direction as well as song title and also came up with some original art to accompany each track.
This art will be shown at Arkhipoff’s forthcoming exhibit at Paris art space 12 Mail from December through to February next year and some 300 copies of the musical results have been pressed up on CD to give away.
The nice people at D*I*R*T*Y / 12 Mail have cocked a snoot at the elitist norm of high art though, and offered all tracks to spread across the internet.
Some are better than others and you’ll find the better ones here. Full details of gallery run after the drop.
