It’s fair to say that despite being long, long dead, Arthur Russell is just ’so hot right now’, with everyone from devoted disco beards to questionable art students staking a claim to his disco/folk/avant pop/classical mantle.
Currently doing their best to burnish his reputation rather than ride on his fraying coat tails are Electric Minds whose new compilation ‘Go Bang!’ is as fine a tribute to the big man as to have surfaced in recent years.
Featuring an allstar line-up of some of our favourite producers/bands (My Tiger My Timing, Pocketknife, Max Essa and Yam Who?) reinterpreting tracks like ‘Wax The Van’, ‘Go Bang!’ and ‘Tiger Stripes’ it’ a great compilation and one well worth adding to your shopping basket at the first opportunity.
Pocketknife + Joe Worricker – Get Around To It (Ray Burst Remix)
To launch the album Electric Minds are joining forces with Lovebox for a ridiculously large party at the (Relentless) Garage on November 27th.
On the night you’ll find many of the artists mentioned above playing in the fine company of people like Maurice Fulton, Bill Brewster, and Severino plus a screening of Matt Wolf’s acclaimed AR biopic ‘Wild Combination‘. Big pats on the back to everyone involved on this one.
Tickets are available now from Resident Advisor.
