Feeling Dirty

So as usual, last Sunday 7.30AM meant “SHUT UP Terry Francis, I’m going to bed.” Of course whatever occurs before these hapless hours always shrouds such inevitably painful outcomes and you do it all over again the next week… This night to blame, Mr Claude VonStroke.

The ‘Bird Brain’ release launch party saw a cross-section of Dirtybird‘s roster, putting J Phlip on first in Room 1 for like a billion hours (stamina) before Justin Martin played a stream of tracks featuring various funny noises of course- trademark of the San Fran label, mixing in the epic ‘California’ and Iz & Diz remixes.

Soma Recordings‘ Slam preceded Kenny Larkin’s more Detroit techno sounds and house like you were in Chicago in Room 2. Whilst having long looked forward to Zev & Gadi from their NY Wolf + Lamb label, they lived up to their rep spinning smooth vocal funky/soul via disco tunes, filling upstairs more than ever seen after Craig Richards manned the warm-up hours.

Back in Room 1, Voodeux‘s live set with Tanner Ross’ face all lit up with Hell-ish/strobe lighting was the much anticipated highlight. Full on and intense with the eerie creaking sounds of the album yet strangely danceable, he built up an frighteningly frenetic set, ’til simultaneously; The crowd turns to the opposite side of the room where Mr Crenshaw pops his head up from behind the decks, and lets rip with some epic Marc Houle, continuing long into the morning light..
