Once in a while we like to acknowledge life in England exists beyond the M25. We try not to do it too often though as if we Londoners lose our deluded sense of cultural superiority we’d soon realise that we actually just live in a ridiculously expensive, crowded, drab city with rubbish transport, and jaded seen it all before crowds.
Forcing our hand though is a ridiculously heavy series of gigs, workshops and events marking Birmingham’s finest promoters Capsule‘s 10th Anniversary. Responsible for the annual Supersonic Festival and more recently the Home of Metal, Capsule’s Jenny and Lisa have added much to their home city’s proud history of producing the heaviest, noisiest sounds around.
Starting tonight and continuing throughout December acts such as Sunn 0))), Lightning Bolt, Monotonix, Beak> (Geoff Barrows’ new band), Tunng, Six Organs of Admittance and the beautifully named Cum Dogs will be making Birmingham so goddamned heavy that passing aeroplanes will be downed by the city’s gravitational pull.
If you’re in the midlands and have any interest in things psyche/noise/drone/just fucking loud then you’ll want to be there.
And for those about to rock, we salute you…
