Arguably the best and worst named collective/night, Mulletover will be having their January Sale on the 30th with the legends that are NY’s Wolf + Lamb, Soul Clap, and the UK’s own Richie Ahmed and Geddes.
The perfect outing for soulful deep house and disco all the way from Brooklyn if you haven’t left your bed/desk since those Christmas turkeys and mull(et)ing the crap out of everything…
And watch out for the new 2010 T Bar which will see the usual likes of 2020 Soundsystem, Disco Bloodbath and Phonica hosting, amongst newbies to the Houndsditch venue like Floating Points, Claude VonStroke and Duke Dumont.
Whilst I admire Tony’s complete refusal to even contemplate doing something about the state of the Slutty Fringe inbox, I do feel duty bound to poke around and make sure we haven’t missed anything too OMG AMAZING.
A good thing really as otherwise I’d have missed out on this remix by Zombie Zombie of fellow Parisian’s Yeti Lane. As you would expect from Zombie Zombie the remix goes heavy on the lush analog synths, all buzzing and fuzzing like a hive full of Can obsessed bees, and is really very good indeed.
If you like what you hear then the original is taken from Yeti Lane’s debut album released on Sonic Cathedral on the 25th of January and which will no doubt be getting some heavy airtime in the Slutty Fringe Skoda.
After a month of fun across the atlantic in various places it was deemed best to put off indulging in the several thousand emails that have been gathering dust in my inbox throughout December.
Instead fresh for 2010 is a new mix from Stopmakingme whose rise from Pure Groove posterboy to resident for Kill Em All and Fabric over the past 12 months has verged on the meteoric.
This is thanks in no small part to Dan’s burgeoing talent as a remixer with further evidence on show here in the shape of retouches of We Have Band and Boy8Bit alongside some personal favourites of mine such as the recent Sounds Superb take on Diana Ross, Pink Skull at their eeriest and Dixon’s superlative edit of Lykke Li.

In a world of never ending misery and shit, thank god for bands like Weave! that keep us from parking the car in the garage, sticking the hosepipe in the exhaust and kicking back to Fleetwood Mac’s Greatest Hits.
Part of an ever expanding group of bands coming out of the Echo Park area of LA, (see also Rainbow Arabia, Fool’s Gold, Hecuba, We Are The World, etc etc) Weave! sound a bit like if a plane carrying The Slits or Bush Tetras had crash landed in the Serengeti and all involved had not only survived but gone onto have a bit of a laugh with the local wildlife.
This Jan/Feb those of us not lucky enoughto live in the US of A, can grab a fleeting moment of sunny Californian utopianism when the band tour our impoverished grayscale continent. Hopefully just one night of Weave will be enough to stave off the dark clouds for a few more weeks.
