Pork Chop Express

06.04.10

If one of your all time fantasies involves a soho basement, lots of alcohol, live music from Eel Pie Island’s finest, risible yoof tv personalities and a car that moonlights as a DJ booth, then you my friend are in luck.

Thats right, this Thursday 8th April sees US car types Chevoret unleash Spark, their entrant into the European market, on an unassuming audience at the Vinyl Factory (rumoured to be where Phonica press up all those disco edits) before doing a series of popup events across the UK (more info here)

Playing live are Mystery Jets (seen above sullenly sharing picture space with the aforementioned motor turned DJ booth) with the added comedy bonus of a DJ set from Nick Grimshaw alongside selections from Merok Records and Sth Ldn afrobeat fopp Jack Penate.

Kate Moross will be stationed behind her laptop providing some concentric circle visuals and the girls from WAH Nails (best website ever btw) are also on hand to provide a neon tinged manicure.

Chevrolet have given Slutty Fringe 5 pairs of VIP tickets to this event – for a chance to win just email me with the answer to the following quandry:

Who designed the Chevrolet Spark Tour logo?

a) Jimi Crayon

b) Jimi Mistri

c) Jimi Hendrix

(Apparently clues are on hand at the Spark facebook page)

Competition ends Thursday 12pm

Andy Callahan should need no introduction.

His latest collection of work over on his new portfolio shows a true passion for well produced graphic design and print work. Featured above, Andy’s latest book sleeve design and typesetting of Todd Jordan’s novel and university project ‘Books by covers’ show truly wonderful art finesse.

Graduating with a degree in Graphic Design from Leeds this year, Callahan is now amongst the ever-growing outstanding talent this country has to offer.

Check out some new and past work from Andy over on his new site www.andycallahan.co.uk.

This is the post where Stopmakingme pips Carl Craig in the race to Make The Best Remix of We Have Band – lots of competition on this one too with French Fries, Goldenbug, Screen Death, Gohan, DJ Mujava and Tom Staaaaaaaar also competing.

In which Solid Bump Records wunderkind Laberge takes off his disco house trilby and slides on his deep haus fedora with this reimagination of 90s R & B chanteuse Monica.

Slutty Fringe Mix Series: Rory Phillips

01.04.10

For mix number two in our ongoing, game changing, series we have former Trash (and current Durrr and Say Yes!) resident DJ Rory Phillips.

Not just one of our favourite DJs, Rory is increasingly becoming our number one choice in the remix stakes with his edits for the likes of The Units, The XX and New Young Pony Club all featuring heavily in our sets (and on these pages) over the past twelve months.

As for the mix it was recorded live at the last Slutty Fringe party, we all had such a good time we wanted a souvenir to enjoy it all again in the comfort of our own homes and now you can too, just add 10 pints of lager and a few rum and cokes for the full effect.
