Apologies to our non-London/agoraphobic readers but you may be surprised to find out that there are a few fine looking parties on in the capital tonight that we think deserve special mention.
First up we have Gallus. Glaswegian slang for someone impressive, confident, bolshy and cheeky, it’s now also the name of a new party at the City Arts & Music Project.
The name’s well chosen as the lineup is packing plenty of swagger and looks like many a music bloggers wet dream. Headlining the night and playing live are Parisian duo Acid Washed, (featured plreviously on these pages here) whose blend of French House, NY Disco and jacking Chicago House should be just the tonic for a Friday night session.
They’re joined by hypnotic Italian electro poppers We Love, Texas native Night Plane (featured previously on these pages here), currently making waves on the excellent Thisisntanexit label, and DFA’s Shit Robot (featured plreviously on these pages here), whose debut album ‘From The Cradle to the Rave‘, a masterclass in electro/techno/disco/house is out this week.
Up the road in Dalston, our friends The Beat are back in action throwing another punk-funk-disco party at The Alibi. They’re joined by Photonz vs ZNTN (whose excellent Slutty Fringe mix is still available here), Cage & Aviary, Fromage Disco and Stephen Hodgen.
All killer, no filler. It’s on till 3am and is completely free to get in.
Finally completing tonight’s mad cab run around, we’ll be checking out the launch of the Counter Culture Project down under the arches in London Bridge.
Taking over and renaming the space formerly known and loved by me as Jacks, the organisers have programmed 99 consecutive parties, phot exhibitions, film, theatre and comedy events. You have to admire their ambition!
There’s some great parties coming up, with the likes of Jackmode (Zombie Disco Squad, etc) curating nights and tonight things kick off in style with old Fringe favourites Man Like Me playing live alongside The Subs, plus The Invisible, The Whip and the Heavenly Jukebox boys on the decks. It all kicks off at ten and goes right through to 6am.
