Kingdom Come

Danimal Kingdom (by Elisha Smith-Leverock)

Lack of internet has played havoc with my carefully laid plans this week, but hey first world problems and all that… Anyway the big news with Team Fringe is the addition to the Hot Pockets roster on one Danimal Kingdom.

The solo project of former Bolt Action Five frontman Daniel Murtha, Danimal Kingdom’s songs join the dots between 80’s influenced new wave pop and today’s best electronic music, and have already earned him comparisons to the likes of Squeeze and Devo.

Dan played at our NEW! night earlier this year and I was so blown away by his performance, that by the end of the night I was chasing him out of the venue demanding he give me a 7″.

Sexual harrasment lawsuit notwithstanding the happy result is that we’ll be putting out Dan’s debut single, ‘Vinyl Skipping Ever Backwards/Through The Ice’ some time in November.

To properly introduce you to him we’re making the track ‘Amputee Spirit’ available now, you can stream it here and download it from Dan’s new website, can’t say fairer than that really can we.

Well Luscious Jackson

07.10.10

Having been abandoned by their spiritual home of a dank basement underneath a furniture shop after Bardens decided to close up and sell up to the highest bidder, the Daughters of Kaos return to London nightlife south of the river with a big old fucking Club Motherfucker party at Corsica Studios on October 16.

Amidst the glamour and stress of being a Daughter of Kaos, Rebbeca and Zena have found the time to put together a stush line up thats made all exciting by the only UK gig for a while from our favourite South Americal troupe of tropical psychedelia smiths Panico! In addition the amusing faux goth electrodiscopogo act The Human Life also perform live alongside a whole host of bands we’ve never heard of.

Former Le Tigre member and current Men man JD Samson is the latest to test the theory that band members really shouldn’t be DJing, alongside our new buddies Sloth Boogie and of course the aforementioned mistresses of ceremony The Daughters of Kaos. More details on the night at the Club Mofo site.

In a glaring coincidence, our friends Lovers & Gamblers have been comissioned to turn The Human Life into something else via a remix of the band’s new single “Whereever We Are” which you can enjoy.

Simmering Emotion

06.10.10

If this was 2007 we’d be all up in your virtual grill proclaiming this to be a blog exclusive or some other such nonsense. Thankfully the internet isn’t like that anymore and instead we should all bask in the collective glory of this new remix from LOL Boys, the archetypal children of the internet age.

Doing what they do best, Markus LOL and Jerome Boy transform the slightly muddy psychedelia of Midnight Juggernauts “Lara Versus The Savage Pack” into something that betrays any sort of categorisation.

Boomkat might call it twin peaks tropicalia though.

Download: Midnight Juggernauts – Lara vs The Savage Pack (LOL Boys Remix)

Amazingly this remix doesn’t even form part of the single release which is due out on November 1 with reworks from PVT and weirdly Electric Six. Midnight Juggernauts will also be touring throughout the UK from the day afterwards, mostly in support of *cringe* Chromeo.

Read on for the full tour date details.

Omar X

04.10.10

uk-1009-193048-front

The fourth instalment of the Hybrid Life event series in London will be seeing Mr Omar S The Best all the way from Detroit join forces with current darlings of the deep Wolf + Lamb house scene Art Department, aka Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow.

With ever eclectic line-ups bang on the money, Hybrid Life will be bringing together deep house sounds from all over for the first of their ‘X’ parties, which will run a little more frequent than their ‘Showcase’ nights. Support will come from Alex Jones and Rich NXT playing back-to-back, alongside the interestingly named Deep End Sound System.

Organised Confusion

04.10.10

The crop of vintage Michael Bolton hair that the slightly intimidating 50% of Mighty Mouse sports has been enough to ensure I steer clear of their music to date.

Despite these reservations, a Mighty Mouse remix of Blamma Blamma’s recent Stevie Nicks homage is too intriguing a prospect to pass up.

Kaleidoscopic Ecstasy

04.10.10

Detachments reach CAMP for the London leg of their nationwide tour tommorow which means you’ve had just enough time to familiarise yourself with what is a brilliant debut album full of skewed cold wave synth paranoia.

It’s been a constant on everything I own that plays music which includes a dancing monkey since the summer, and is one of this year’s most accomplished albums in a year that’s full of them

As an extra special treat we’ve been green lighted to post the seventeen minute mind melt remix of Holiday Romance from Cave Painting don Andy Blake in full 320kbps quality. EXCITEMENT.

Extended Niceties

Lone’s recent swerve from hazy post trip hopisms towards brutal rave monsters as typified by the vintage Chicago jack of  “Pineapple Crush” which has become a staple of  the Slutty Fringe DJ set over the summer months should be applauded by all.

Ahead of what is an exciting mini album on his own Magic Wire imprint as well as some track for the ever smiling Herve’s label, the Nottingham producer has engaged in a bout of remix swaps with Grizzly don Sinden.  Watch out for Sinden’s refix of  “Once In A While” in the near future and wrap your ears around this Lone refix of The Count & Sinden’s “Addicted To You”.
