Jaguar Skills

06.11.10

Tonight in East London JaguarShoes are holding a launch party for their new label Big Dirty Engine and lovers fun & interesting music and of nicely designed packaging should rejoice as from their first efforts it looks like they’ve got that shit on lockdown.

First up is Ride On, the debut release from label boss Nick Jaguar and as you can see from the pictures it looks gorgeous, 10 inches of limited edition, pure as the driven snow white vinyl, all wrapped in a lovely Stevie Gee illustration.

Ensuring no fetish is untouched, they’ve also produced a limited run on cassette, which they’ve left in various places around London from stores such as No-one, Beyond Retro, Behave or fixed with RIDE ON sticky tape to parked cycles and doors throughout East London.

With release number 2 from Black Manilla set to drop later this month, this is one label to definitely keep an eye on.

Tongue Tied

05.11.10

More quality from the wonderful Instant Replay label, this time in the shape of Poof, the new and indeed debut 4 track EP from DJ, promoter and former Golden Gnome Award winner Lupe.

They’ve been kind enough to send over one of the tracks so here for your jacking entertainment is the Tom Trago remix of Shake, which conjures up romantic images of warehouses, acid smileys and good looking young things swapping pills mouth to mouth.

Just a hunch but I also reckon the Bowski remix of The Souls I posted earlier would segue into this just lovely.

Möbius Stripper

I’ve had a soft spot for Alex Smoke ever since his hypnotic remix of Radio 4′s Transmission did remarkably strange things to my space/time continuum one night.

Anyway his new remix of Chloe isn’t quite up there with that, but it’s still a menacingly discombobulating 8 minute slice of dark dancefloor action currently getting supported by the kinds of DJs who don’t tend to play shit music.

Taken from Chloe’s album One in Other, the remix is out now, the first in a new series of ‘Deadline’ EPs on Kill The DJ Records.

Choose Your Own Adventure

RANDOM_2

Released a week or two ago but still available exclusively through the 2020 Vision website (and at the crazy nice price of £4.99) is the new album, Outlaw, from Random Factor, aka Carbon Academy, Silicon Scally, Voice Stealer and slightly more prosaically Carl Finlow.

It’s the label’s 200th release which pretty fucking heroic by anyone’s standards and it’s eleven tracks are the kind of Detroit via Leeds high quality electro funk we’ve come to expect from Mr Finlow since his first ever release onWarp back in 1993.

You can stream (and buy) the whole album now from here, and download the album’s slow burning acidic opener Infrarouge below.

Shine On

Oscar Fullone, now there’s a name I haven’t heard for a while. Anyway he, formerly of rather fun club Mish Mash, is back producing under the name The Souls alongside his fellow Glaswegian Valerie Edmond.

The next single is called Sunlight, something we could all do with a bit more of the moment, and it comes backed with this nicely disciplined mix from Bowski that should sound lovely warming up a big room somewhere this weekend.

Or indeed your living room tonight.

Big Love

04.11.10

heart

Sounding like it should break into a chorus of “I’ve been saving my loving” comes the new remix from Chicago’s Bit Funk of Ghosts of Venice‘s Her, out now on Solid Bump Records.

Memories of nights out under tacky neon lighting, drinking equally gaudy cocktails aside, this is a lovely chunk of funky disco house that refreshingly doesn’t sound like it’s embarrassed about enjoying itself.

Also bonus points for using that old school funk rising note thing that I can never remember the technical term for (if there is one), but which always reminds me of The Fresh Prince’s peerless Summertime.

Carlo’s Eyebrow Twitched Menacingly

04.11.10

Part one of The Schwarzschild Solution from Danish types Kenton Slash Demon took ages to come out and then had its glory stolen when Caribou released an even better song about our glorious vitamin D provider.

Thankfully for KSD no one else is yet to better their ode to Fabric’s befallen sister club which forms the A Side of the second volume of The Schwarzschild Solution which was released this week with a very techy remix from Jacques and Marcus Runaway hogging the flipside.

Bisous Bisous

04.11.10

The sense of inevitable momentum to the production career of Stopmakingme gathers apace with this remix of sugarpop duo Kisses which reimagines their eponymous signature track as eight minutes of glacial throb.

Excitement.

Download: Kisses – Kisses (Stopmakingme Remix)

Stopmakingme’s debut EP is released on Kill Em All on November 21 replete with a rather nice remix from Deadstock 33s and young Avery also has remixes for Detachments(!!) and In Flagranti(!!) due in the near future. Kisses debut album is out now and is the sort of long player that worms its ways into your affections and makes itself comfortable.

Fragment Issue One Launch Party

02.11.10

frag

London’s new favourite newspaper makers Fragment are celebrating the launch of Issue One this weekend with a huge blow out party at their monthly spot at Horse & Groom in Shoreditch town. To celebrate the big night the boys have brought down Mercury brothers The Invisible to DJ alongside monthly residents Moman, James Fragment, Mad as Hell as well as us Slutty musical crew.

Starting a little earlier than normal this month just so you can pick up a limited edition, hand numbered copy of Fragment Issue One early on. Then alongside the launch fun there’s also the chance to catch an exclusive viewing of the new ‘Lux Laze’ film by Dan Swan. Ditch all firework material and get down for more monthly drunkness.

For more information on the night head over to the Facebook event here or the boys lovely website here.

Natural Lifespan

02.11.10

In the pantheon of producers who could possibly improve on the psychedelic hues of Tame Impala via the art of the remix, Pilooski and Erol Alkan surely must rank highly.

Whilst we wait for the latter enjoy the former’s take on “Lucidity” which adds a certain gleeful glam rock edge.

Needs More Cowell

01.11.10

The other week Pinglewood Pinglewood was proclaimed as worlds strongest blogger* after the releases of the rather excellent and rightly lauded Ariel Pink pingcast that garnered cover versions and remixes of said Haunted Graffiti artists from the likes of C Powers, Bullion, Your Twenties and His Clancyness.

This iron man of the blog world status was exemplified earlier today when soon after PW PW released the pingcast as separate files, serial chancers Ariel Pink announced a gig at London haunt Catch on Nov 5 to shamelessly cash in on the Pinglewood Pinglewood brand.

Edit: Due to massive demand the gig has been moved to tommorow night at Hoxton Bar & Grill with headline DJ set from Pinglewood Pinglewood.

*This fact has since been ratified via the medium of Suffolk pig carrying.

We Speak To Those

01.11.10

Our blog bros at Pelski are going toe to toe with the Jackmode agency in a mammoth event at London Bridge pop up club Counter Culture this Saturday night.

Christian Martin sits atop a very impressive lineup that includes guttersluts done good Zombie Disco Squad, Deadfish alumni Solo, Swiss big cheeses Round Tizzy Knights and rising star Midland across the two rooms.

This gives us a convenient excuse to post Midland’s superlative edit of Caribou.

Download: Caribou – Sun (Midland Re-Edit)

Full details on the event can be found here.
