Sometimes when two of your favourite things in life come together the results are terrible – Rose Byrne and Diane Kruger billed alongside each other in Wicker Park for example.
Effortlessly leading the way in how to get the whole two fav things come together thing very right is this LOL BOYS remix of the new single from TE3TH
Care Bear is out now on Double Moshi – look out for the debut LP from TE3TH and the fine shirts of J. LOL BOY
In which we chart the upward momentum of Lovesport with the exciting news that the NYC duo’s newly dusted remix of Lo Fi Fnk’s was one of several revisions that the Scandinavian duo loved enough to sport on the official release of “Boom” which is set to grace the space on the internet called iTunes early next month.
Some seven days after Beyonce’s little sister stepped up to the decks at The Shacklewell Arms, Slutty Fringe will be handling proceedings in the gaps between a live set from Bonjay. Fresh from a rest and relaxation stint in Berlin, the Toronto duo have promised to transform the backroom area into a heaving mass of high energy rhythmic thrustations and wall shuddering bass. Given the rich tradition of West Indian music attached to The Shacklewell Arms, it seems a perfect venue for Allana and Ian from Bonjay to deliver their next century blend of sounds that leans to a certain degree on les dancehall digitales.
They might even do their rather special cover version of Caribou’s “Jamelia”.
Any rumours that Christina Millian is currently locked in negotiations with our legal representation over a special headline DJ set as yet cannot be confirmed….
This week’s prize for the most interesting sounds to arrive in my inbox goes to young Irish producer REID.
A heady mixture of tempos, jagged sounds, rhythmic directions and gentle melodies punctuate the five tracks on his recently finished Genesis EP which is available via for free bandcamp and soundcloud, with the latter criminally lacking in those inane comments that people love to leave.
“GREAT SOUNDS”
It’s worth engulfing yourself in the full release but as a taster why not indulge in my favourite track “Diptera” which effortlessly swerves between calm and chaos.
You can consider me a late adoptee to the class of music lover that shows no qualm in declaring “Hey, that Actress fella might just be a modern day musical master.”
Not sure why exactly, perhaps you’d like to make up your own amusing reasons and write them on your computer monitor in the below space.
After a crash course in the brilliance of Splazsh, I’m now really quite excited to see whatever else the Werk boss has up his figurative sleeve which should be amazing and dismissive of people willing to engage in a game of pin the genre on the musician.
This remark is formed on the basis of his recent Non Plus output along with that Laurel Halo remix that was everywhere yesterday and this track that popped up via his twitter feed earlier this evening.
Scandalism returns to the Nest in Dalston this Friday, with another all star lineup including Mighty Mouse, Jaymo & Andy George, Teeth, Grum, Disco of Doom and our good selves.
It’s free in before 10 and just a fiver afterwards, but drop us a line as we have a decent sized guestlist and not many friends.
The first few to get in touch can go on our free list and experience just some of the crippling shame that the few friends we do have, have had to endure for nearly five years by telling door people they’re with Slutty Fringe.
This weeks prize for heaving slab of Gallic motorik psychedelia goes to the I: Cube remix of Aladdin’s “Mass Confusion” which was just released on twelve inches of love along with remixes from Bot’Ox and Aladdin’s own Gilb’r.
If you are wondering what the C.E.R.N. in the title means it’s Causes External Reflex Nausea
The man with the bounciest fringe Seams has a new and quite limited 12″ out in the very near future on the always excellente Pictures Music which betrays a shift in sonic direction away from the pleasant amble through electronica towards the dancefloor. Both tracks do this with an auspicious degree of ease with “Focus Energy” particularly fine.
The label will be throwing a party at the Lock Tavern in conjunction with God Don’t Like It on July 17 with live performances from Seams, Lapalux and Shells. Obviously the fact Slutty Fringe will also be playing some choice cuts from recently procured Minimal Wave albums makes it even more exciting and should guarantee you attend.
Don’t know about you but I miss the happy sounding Lykke Li days of past when she rejected epic remixes from Pocketknife (still play that one on the reg guy) as opposed to her maudlin music of recent times – she is looking kinda hot these days tho so it’s all good.
This blog friendly remix of Misss Li’s “Sadness Is A Blessing” by Man like D|R|U|G|Z|zZzzZzz popped up on the triple W over the weekend and probably sounds better in the indie disco at 1am whilst you gots your vodka and coke dance on as opposed to a Monday morning at the desk of whatever bacon providing job you do.
