Mat Maitland L’Officiel

22

The powerhouse that is Mat Maitland has just released some of his latest and greatest work, this time round a 10 page editorial for the December/January issue of Paris based fashion magazine l’Officiel.

Featuring items of luxury thrown in with some disembodied body parts, pop symbols and flamingos he create’s an element of surprise and the unknown something sure to cause a stir from the norm.

Guide to Sample Sales

03.12.09

chanelcrumplybagYou know it’s the ‘festive season’ when the entire female half of the office leaves to queue outside a dodgy ‘art space’ in Hackney for a leftover piece of Christopher Kane chow mein. (Today at 5pm)

To avoid ending up hobbling to the Whitechapel walk-in centre, it is highly advised you bring one of each of the following:
1. A knife
2. A cycling hockey helmet
3. A map of the sale locations (some of them are weird, Cooperative Designs at Darnley Rd? Emma Cook at Shacklewell?)
4. A dummy Chanel 2.55 – to throw across the room as a distraction to those hungry, hungry dogs
5. Your elbows (in case you decided to leave them at home today)

Bring it, lady.

La Vie En Clothes

02.12.09

millionhands Big Grace T-shirtCurrently fuelling my well documented T-Shirt fetish is the new range of designs over at Millionhands. Whilst the Chi-Town lover in me was instantly attracted to the Adonis tee, the clear winner has to be Big Grace, featuring, of course, the world’s favourite statuesque Jamaican Diva.

Sure to make a statement down the discotheque, though possibly one that says ‘I love being pegged by hard as nails women’, go grab now before all your money gets frittered away on crap Christmas presents for your family.

As an extra bonus stick ‘Slutty10′ into the promo code box and get yourself a 10% discount on any order.

Work Me A Look

13.11.09

Depending on your outlook in life you’ll think the above suit designed by Raf Simmons is either a complete fucking joke or a really strong fashion statement…..

Soul Land

12.11.09

tart1

Seen those Grecian-rings filled with abstract satanic looking stars / triangles? Silas Adler aka Soulland who’s been designing the artwork for Tomboy & Fredski’s Tartelet Records is behind the creepy symbols, better known for his menswear collections, photography collaborations with Nicolaj Holm Moller, and now even makes music videos.

So what is this, the Jennifer Lopez of Denmark? Or a surprisingly ok attempt at crossing over i. e the Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen of tech-house? The fashion is no gobsmacker, but the art fantastic, and the music videos for When Saints Go Machine’s Spitting Image is well luscious yeo.

Paint It Yellow

26.10.09

the_national_womens

I own too many t-shirts, considering that they generally all look shit on me and I normally wear shirts anyway you’d think I’d be able to resist temptation but no I’m a sucker for a nice design on a bit of cloth.

Still at least with Yellow Bird‘s Tees, I can take some solace in the fact that tomorrow’s dusters will have generated some cash for a good cause or two. Featuring design from a whole host of ‘indie’ bands such as Au Revoir Simone, Of Montreal and Devendra Banhart, each t-shirt benefits a different charity ranging from New York’s Safe Space to old faithfuls like Greenpeace.

Currently I’m torn between The National’s (pictured above) and Little Boots‘ effort, though to be honest I think it’s probably the remarkably gamine young lass modelling Ms Hesketh’s one that is interfering with my judgement here rather than any particular aesthetic merits of her design.

Gotta Get Up

01.10.09

Not content with a major network radio show, nationwide tours with her bass buddies Fake Blood, Boy 8 Bit and Major Lazer etc, being chums with that Grimmy twerp and the title of curliest mop in contemporary dance music, Annie Mac has now branched out into the lucrative world of trainer design.

The Dublin born low end urchin has teamed up with sweatshop favourites Nike to produce the above limited edition Air Max 90s, though it’s hard to decipher exactly what creative input was involved other than a displaying  a penchant for mustard yellow and the phrase ‘Whoop!’

Fans of Annie Mac or the sneaker pimps amongst you will no doubt be filling your cup with glee at the prospect of winning a pair without having to engage your brain.
