Dalston Takeover With Bonjay (Live)

18.07.11

Some seven days after Beyonce’s little sister stepped up to the decks at The Shacklewell Arms, Slutty Fringe will be handling proceedings in the gaps between a live set from Bonjay. Fresh from a rest and relaxation stint in Berlin, the Toronto duo have promised to transform the backroom area into a heaving mass of high energy rhythmic thrustations and wall shuddering bass. Given the rich tradition of West Indian music attached to The Shacklewell Arms, it seems a perfect venue for Allana and Ian from Bonjay to deliver their next century blend of sounds that leans to a certain degree on les dancehall digitales.

They might even do their rather special cover version of Caribou’s “Jamelia”.

Any rumours that Christina Millian is currently locked in negotiations with our legal representation over a special headline DJ set as yet cannot be confirmed….

The Last Off Modern

25.05.11

Over the last three years Off Modern have been putting on one of the best monthly’s south of the river. Drunk, disorderly and crammed with a mix of genre bashing artists, musicians and DJ’s.

Alas, as we’ve all seen good nights come and go it’s time to say goodbye to the monthly Corsica affair with Off Modern set to go out with a bang this Friday. The Modern will be back with other events, exhibitions, appearances and hopefully further publications but for now at least, it’s over.

So clear your plans – This Friday, Corsica Studios, Elephant & Castle – Off Modern. Featuring Fair Ohs, Pseudo Nippon, Body Hammer alongside DJ’s Secret Guest, Paul B. Davis, Lixo, Bradley Zero, Holy Ghost, Meg Woof plus residents, Tomfoolery and Nasty McQuaid

“IT’S BEEN A GREAT THREE YEARS AT CORSICA, COME AND SEE IT OFF WITH US!”

Start Making Sense

19.05.11

The East Coast multimedia enclave of smart young things known as Doplar descend on the excellently named House Of Yes in Brookyln later this month for Doplar Sensebox.

Doplar is an evolving art form and Sensebox is their plaything – running from 9pm to 4am each area of the House Of Yes will be designated to one of the five sensations experienced by sentient beings with perhaps the pleasant sensation your ears operate for the most relevant to these here pages.

Both Wolf + Lamb and the boy Jaar’s Clown N Sunset imprint are well represented with Voices of Black and Pavla & Noura on the bill and there’s some transatlantic DJ backing in the form of Gallic spinette Clara3000 and NYC fixture DJ Ecks.

Further reason to attend comes in the shape of a free custom made popsicle for the first 200 arrivals as well as food from Funkism’s Sindy! Further details can be found at the Doplar facebook page.

Androids Amongst Us?

16.03.11

Props to our Flora for slotting inbetween Danish types Kenton Slash Demon, compatriot James Braun of Tartelet Records and the Fill Yer Boots residents on the lineup at this weekend’s Community takeover at Plan B.

For a taste of what to expect check out this Pejhycast from Fill Yer Boots resident Leisureware that slips nonchalantly between Danny Wolfers, KiNK, Pearson Sound, Jacques Greene and more over the course of sixty minutes.

Oh and here’s a wee soundcloud sample of Axel Boman’s forthcoming epic reimagination of KSD’s “Daemon” which you might hear in full should you choose to attend this Saturday’s party.

Hugging The Zeros

07.03.11

If I wasn’t all press passing it up amongst the great and the deranged at BLOC Festival this weekend then I’d totally be hanging at Elephant & Castle on Friday night to see in Club MudderFudder celebrating their 8th birthday with an almighty bang.

Not only do Light Asylum, recently proclaimed the best band in NYC period by them True Panther types, play their only UK date this year but Ze Daughters of Kaos have also roped in a live set from the object of Tom Vek’s production talents Breton.

You can also expect a selection of Cassie’s greatest non hits from cocknbullkidd and Robin So Bones /ΤΓîΔngle Records as well as lots of other bands and DJs who conjure up mental images of Midge Ure stalking a horse through a European city.

There is also one of those Secret Guests to further pique your curiosity.

All the information and more here.

Fragment 11

04.03.11

Tonight good chums of the board, Fragment are bringing down their multi-tune caldron to downtown East End boozer, The Horse & Groom. For the past 11 months, one extortionate new years eve party and several mid week extravagansers the Fragment monthly’s have been unmissable and tonight should be no different.

Alongside monthly residents Moman and James Fragment the night will also hold the keys to musical spectaculars Tony Poland (Slutty Fringe), ThatJohnTalbot (ForgiveMySynth), Polka Dot Sound System (The Pipettes), Flora (Dazed, NCAK, SF) and the power of Mad as Joe (Mad as Hell).

As always tonight’s completely free till 10pm and only £4 after, blasting out a wide variation of top tunes till 4am. For more information head over to the Facebook event here, or the Fragment website here.

Slutty Fringe Presents Pub Discotheque

23.02.11

No sooner have we recovered from the really rather fun stint at the Macbeth last weekend (belatedly in my sore ribbed case) than we turn our attention to this Friday where Slutty Fringe is taking over The Old Queens Head for the very first time in our booze sodden DJ career.

To celebrate we’ve sweet talked one of this country’s finest into joining us: the DJ, producer, label impresario and all round Essex advocate known simply as Matt Walsh.

Propelled to a glistening DJing and production career off the back of impressing some dude called Tiga at the T Bar (RIP) back in 2007, the Turbo & Clouded Vision artist will be playing a rare and special 2 hour set of finely sculpted disco sounds for us, despite the fact we started the whole techno pat swayze thing a few years back….

Sorry Matt.

We are super happy to secure a Bugged Out regular and international jetsetter type to play some disco records upstairs in a tarted up boozer on the Essex Road and we also have asked our friends from Fragment to play too. It’s only fair really after we bullied our way into a headline slot at their New Years Eve party at the Horse & Groom, which we think was a great night, it’s all a bit of a blur really…

Paris is For Lovers

31.01.11

Holding myself back from breaking into a hideous chorus of ‘Le Freak C’est Chic’ in anticipation, Dan Ghenacia’s Parisian-based Freak’n'Chic label will be throwing its farewell party in Room 2, Fabric this Saturday to mark the demise of the iconic deep house label – bringing Dyed Soundorom, Monsieur Shonky, and Anthony Collins in tow. The legendary Derrick Carter headlines whilst Jimpster and Nature or Nuture celebrate their 2nd birthday elsewhere at the unadulterated night of grooving, melodic house. Check out the new Anthony Collins mix to get you in the mood. Bon appetit.

The Fragment boys are back in town this Friday hitting double figures with their 10th superior blow out at The Horse & Groom down Shoreditch way. Bringing to town good friend and ultimate party maker Opuscule alongside residents Moman, Mad as Hell and James Fragment it should be all set up for a mega, mega party.

Le Velour

23.12.10

The master of proper 90s groove-led house tunes, Shonky, returns with his Real Tone release, Le Velour. I pray to the God of house music that he will play this when he replaces Nina Kraviz after she failed to get a visa (sucks to be a Russian DJ) at the Nofitstate New Years Day party alongside Shaun Reeves, Bad Passion Project and of course Geddes. 10pm – 6am  at a ‘secret London location’.
